a nice, tight fit for my 80gb ipod. it’s a little heavy, but offers good protection.

Other iPods have the capability, but only with extra hardware added. For example, the iPod Touch can record with an external microphone. You can find cheap microphones online for less than a dollar. The quality on those won’t be great.
